KATHMANDU: Nepal’s stock market declined on Thursday, with the NEPSE index falling by 17.53 points to close at 2,714.05, even as daily trading turnover increased significantly.
A total of Rs 14.56 billion worth of shares were traded during the day. This is an increase of about Rs 3 billion compared to Wednesday’s turnover of Rs 11.49 billion.
Most sector indices ended lower. Except for hydropower, investment, and mutual fund groups, all other sub-indices declined. The development bank sub-index dropped the most by 2.22 percent, while the manufacturing and processing sector fell by 2.12 percent.
Despite commercial banks publishing improved second-quarter financial statements, share prices declined during the session.
Out of the companies traded, share prices of 170 companies decreased, while 85 companies posted gains. Corporate Development Bank, Mithila Laghubitta, and Saptakoshi Development Bank hit the negative circuit limit.
Among gainers, Himal Dolakha Hydropower rose the most by 9.23 percent. Shivashree Hydropower increased by 9.19 percent, and Kalika Power gained 8.32 percent.
In terms of turnover, Ngadi Group Power recorded the highest transaction value at Rs 599.9 million. SY Panel followed with Rs 522.9 million, United Modi Hydropower with Rs 466.4 million, and Union Hydropower with Rs 446.2 million worth of shares traded.
