KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index posted a modest improvement on Monday but with a decline in trading turnover.
The benchmark index, which initially climbed to an intraday high of 2,706 points, fluctuated throughout the session before closing up by 1.53 points at 2,695.73.
However, market activity weakened compared to Sunday. Total turnover fell from over Rs 9 billion a day earlier to Rs 8.22 billion on Monday.
Out of the traded stocks, share prices of 114 companies increased, while 134 declined. Prices of 13 companies remained unchanged.
Among sectoral indices, the Hotels and Tourism group rose by 1.77 percent, while the Development Bank index gained 0.77 percent. On the downside, the Finance sub-index dropped 0.89 percent, and Life Insurance edged down 0.35 percent.
In individual performers, shares of SY Panel, Shreenagar Agritech, and Himstar Energy surged by the daily limit of 10 percent, whereas Mithila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha fell by 10 percent.
