KATHMANDU: CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC) has collected Rs 18.19 billion in revenue during the fiscal year 2081/82 from taxes related to secondary market securities transactions.
The company said the amount was mobilized through capital gains tax, TDS, and windfall gain tax. Of the total collection, Rs 16.53 billion came from capital gains tax, Rs 1.63 billion from TDS, and Rs 31.7 million from windfall gain tax.
In the previous fiscal year 2080/81, CDSC had collected a total of Rs 6.13 billion, including Rs 5.50 billion in capital gains tax, Rs 410 million in TDS, and Rs 10 million under windfall gain tax.
According to company records, CDSC collected Rs 3.39 billion in FY 2079/80, Rs 11.43 billion in FY 2078/79, Rs 15.57 billion in FY 2077/78, and Rs 1.21 billion in FY 2076/77.
Established in BS 2067 under the Companies Act, 2063, CDSC provides services related to the dematerialization of securities, depository, clearing and settlement, transfer, and transaction record management. The company was set up with an authorized capital of Rs 500 million and a paid-up capital of Rs 300 million.
Following a decision from the 14th Annual General Meeting held on Poush 28, 2081, the company’s ownership structure was revised. Currently, the Government of Nepal holds 49.07 percent and the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) holds 50.93 percent of the company.
The board structure includes the NEPSE Chief Executive/General Manager as Chairperson, two representatives from the Ministry of Finance, one senior-level female representative from NEPSE, and one independent or expert director.
CDSC developed Nepal’s central depository, clearing, and settlement system with technical consultation from Central Depository Services India Limited (CDSL) and in cooperation with CMC India Limited (now Tata Consultancy Services – TCS).
The company operates digital services such as C-ASBA, Mero Share, and centralized electronic KYC (e-KYC), which allow investors to apply for shares and manage securities transactions electronically.
CDSC reported a net profit of Rs 759.5 million in FY 2081/82, up from Rs 458.2 million in FY 2080/81. The company recorded an operating profit of Rs 1.12 billion, total income of Rs 1.32 billion, and total expenses of Rs 200 million in the latest fiscal year.
