Ballot printing for House of Representatives election nears completion

KATHMANDU: Printing of ballot papers for Nepal’s upcoming House of Representatives election has reached its final stage, with authorities expecting the remaining work to be completed within the day.

According to the state-owned Janak Education Materials Centre Limited, only 500,000 ballot papers remain to be printed, all of which are for Bagmati Province.

Executive Managing Director Yadunath Poudel said the printing process, originally planned for 42 days, is being completed ahead of schedule in just 40 days.

“We had started ballot printing with a 42-day work plan. The remaining five lakh ballots will be completed today, meaning the work will finish in 40 days,” Poudel said, adding that printing of first-past-the-post (direct election) ballots is now in its final phase.

The centre had been assigned to print 20.3 million ballot papers for the direct election system. Once today’s remaining batch is printed, authorities will begin final packaging and transport to districts that have not yet received their consignments.

Officials said the facility has been printing 1.3 to 1.5 million ballots per day, enabling the project to move faster than its initial schedule. Meanwhile, around 1 million sample ballots have already been distributed by the Election Commission Nepal to various locations for voter education and logistical preparation.

In addition, printing of 20.83 million proportional representation ballots has already been completed, with packaging finished and distribution to districts underway.

Poudel said ballot papers have already reached Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, and the remaining regions are expected to receive their supplies by the 12th, as election logistics move into the final preparation phase.
