NEPSE dips in single digits with Rs 7.94 billion turnover

KATHMANDU: The Nepalese stock market closed lower in single digits on Monday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Nepal Stock Exchange index falling by 8.16 points to 2,662.91.

A total of 335 stocks were traded 80,559 times, with 19,616,395 shares changing hands, generating a total turnover of Rs 7.94 billion. Three companies — Buddhabhumi Nepal Hydropower, Reliance Spinnings Mills, and Salpa Development Bank — hit their upper circuit limits during the session. In contrast, Khanikhola Hydropower saw its share price drop by 9.38 percent.

In terms of turnover, Ridi Power Company led the market with shares worth Rs 653.03 million traded. Aankhukhola followed with Rs 523.615 million, while Nyadi Group Power recorded a turnover of Rs 482.7 million.

Of the 13 sub-indices, only three showed gains, while the rest declined. Finance (+0.56%), Hotel and Tourism (+0.43%), and Manufacturing (+0.49%) saw positive movements. On the other hand, Banking (-0.12%), Development Banks (-0.46%), Hydropower (-1.02%), Investment (-0.61%), Life Insurance (-0.55%), Microfinance (-0.23%), Mutual Funds (-0.21%), Non-Life Insurance (-0.52%), Others (-0.07%), and Trade (-0.68%) experienced declines.

The market’s performance reflects mixed investor sentiment, with hydropower stocks showing volatility and financial and tourism sectors showing modest gains. The turnover indicates continued active participation, driven mainly by energy and banking sector trades.

Monday’s session highlighted the market’s ongoing sensitivity to sectoral performance and stock-specific movements, signaling cautious optimism among investors ahead of upcoming corporate disclosures and economic updates.
