KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has announced a 10-point political and economic vision aimed at promoting investment, employment, and institutional reform ahead of the parliamentary elections, positioning private sector growth and governance overhaul at the center of its campaign agenda.
Party President Gagan Thapa unveiled the framework at an election rally in Janakpur on Wednesday, stating that the party’s long-term goal is to build a “Prosperous Nepal and Dignified Nepali.”
A key pillar of the vision is explicit support for citizens engaged in business, production, and job creation. The party pledged that the state would actively encourage enterprises of all sizes — from small entrepreneurs to large investors.
The document states that those willing to invest, generate employment, and expand production will receive policy backing, while economically disadvantaged citizens will be empowered to build assets and income sources.
The party also promised to promote transparent and lawful profit-making while taking strict action against illicit wealth accumulation and misuse of resources.
The vision also emphasizes institutional reform, declaring that discriminatory governance practices — often summarized in the phrase “law for the poor, protection for the powerful” — must end.
According to the framework, state institutions including courts, constitutional bodies, police, and universities would be insulated from political interference. Appointments, the party says, would be based on competence, integrity, and constitutional loyalty through transparent selection systems.
The party further pledged to expand digital governance and technology use across public services in order to reduce corruption and bureaucratic delays. It claims this would allow citizens to access government services remotely from their homes.
The 10-point agenda outlines broader socio-economic priorities, including:
The party also stresses cultural preservation alongside modernization, arguing Nepal should remain globally connected while protecting its diversity, language, and heritage.
The vision also frames Nepal as a sovereign, self-respecting country seeking balanced international relations grounded in equality and economic cooperation.
It promises accelerated infrastructure development and modernization of sectors such as tourism, energy, IT, transport, and agriculture to attract international investment and technology.
The party says its governance model will prioritize measurable improvements in people’s daily lives rather than simply maintaining political power.
The announcement signals the Nepali Congress is attempting to anchor its election campaign in economic reform, private sector confidence, and institutional credibility, while presenting itself as a stabilizing force capable of balancing welfare commitments with market-friendly policies.
The Janakpur event marks one of the party’s major campaign pushes in the Madhesh region, where economic opportunity, migration, and governance issues remain dominant voter concerns.
