KATHMANDU: The Government of the United Arab Emirates has issued a strict warning against sharing unverified or disturbing missile-related videos and security-sensitive content on social media, cautioning that violators may face severe legal consequences, including fines, imprisonment, and deportation.
Amid heightened regional tensions linked to the ongoing confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran, UAE authorities have reiterated that circulating footage of missile impacts, defense installations, or emergency response operations constitutes a breach of national security regulations under federal cybercrime laws.
Nepali Embassy Issues Advisory-2
In response to the evolving situation, the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi has released “Advisory-2”, urging all members of the Nepali community residing in the UAE to refrain from spreading rumors, misinformation, or unverified content through social media platforms or digital communication channels.
The embassy emphasized that sharing content from unknown sources, forwarding unconfirmed reports, or publishing unofficial security updates could create confusion and unnecessary panic regarding the security environment.
“The concerned UAE authorities have already warned that such activities are punishable under local law,” the advisory stated, urging Nepali nationals to strictly comply with UAE regulations.
Deportation Risk for Violations
UAE government entities have reportedly clarified that individuals found posting disturbing missile-hit videos, sensitive infrastructure images, or misleading narratives may face deportation in addition to criminal penalties. The warning applies to all residents, including foreign workers and expatriates.
Under UAE cybercrime legislation, dissemination of false information or material that may undermine public security can attract substantial fines and custodial sentences, followed by removal from the country for non-citizens.
Embassy Calls for Responsible Conduct
The Nepali diplomatic mission has appealed to the diaspora to act responsibly while capturing or sharing photos and videos related to the ongoing regional situation. It urged the community to avoid contributing to speculation or misinformation that could destabilize public order.
For accurate updates, the embassy advised Nepali nationals to rely solely on official communications issued by UAE government authorities through verified websites and recognized state institutions.
Previous Travel Advisory
Earlier, the embassy had issued its first advisory urging Nepali citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious amid rising geopolitical uncertainty in the Gulf region.
With over 300,000 Nepali migrant workers residing in the UAE—one of Nepal’s largest labor destinations—the embassy stressed that compliance with host country laws is essential to protect employment status, residency permits, and overall safety.
The diplomatic mission reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the situation closely and providing verified information as developments unfold.
