KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has finalized the list of 57 lawmakers to be elected under Nepal’s proportional representation (PR) electoral system, with a strong emphasis on gender inclusion as 48 women and 9 men have been selected.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s secretariat on Sunday, according to party spokesperson Manish Jha.
Jha said the list was prepared in line with Nepal’s constitutional requirement for inclusive representation across various social clusters.
Representation by Social Cluster
According to the party, the selected candidates represent multiple social groups under the proportional system:
Khas Arya: 17
Indigenous Janajati: 16
Madhesi: 9
Dalit: 8
Tharu: 4
Muslim: 3
The party has not yet disclosed the names of the individuals selected under each cluster.
List to Be Submitted to Election Commission
The party plans to submit the finalized list to the Election Commission Nepal on Sunday.
According to spokesperson Jha, the names will only be made public after the commission verifies and approves the list under the legal provisions governing proportional representation.
Under Nepal’s electoral system, political parties must ensure representation from constitutionally mandated social groups while maintaining gender balance in the proportional representation seats of the federal parliament.
