KATHMANDU: Nepal’s high-Himalayan tourism sector has earned global recognition after the renowned American publication Time Magazine included Mountain Lodges of Nepal’s Manang Lodge in its prestigious list of “The World’s Greatest Places of 2026.”
The recognition places the remote Himalayan destination of Manang alongside some of the world’s most remarkable travel experiences, highlighting Nepal’s growing appeal in global adventure tourism, luxury trekking, and sustainable mountain hospitality.
According to the magazine, the newly built lodge represents a significant shift in the trekking experience along the legendary Annapurna Circuit—one of the most iconic long-distance trekking routes in the world.
Perched high above the yak-grazed valley of the Marsyangdi River at an altitude of 11,312 feet (3,448 meters), the 14-room stone-built Manang Lodge is the first upscale accommodation in the region.
Large floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the sacred Annapurna mountain range, offering trekkers panoramic views of the Himalayas while modern amenities—including heated beds and premium hospitality services—provide comfort rarely found at such high altitude.
The project marks a new phase in Nepal’s evolving trekking industry, combining traditional Himalayan landscapes with modern boutique-style lodging.
For decades, the Annapurna Circuit was widely regarded as Nepal’s crown jewel of trekking routes, stretching about 150 miles and traditionally taking nearly a month to complete.
However, road construction across sections of the trail has transformed the journey, compressing the route into as little as eight days for modern trekkers.
While the infrastructure development has changed the trekking dynamic, it has also made destinations like Manang more accessible. Today, travelers can reach Manang via a roughly 10-hour drive from Kathmandu or a short helicopter flight from Pokhara, a gateway city for Himalayan tourism.
The lodge also serves as a base for exploring the wider cultural and natural heritage of the Manang region.
Visitors can explore the historic Manang village, as well as the nearby Braga Monastery, a centuries-old Buddhist monastery believed to be more than 600 years old.
Other nearby attractions include:
Mountain Lodges of Nepal also organizes high-altitude picnic excursions to scenic viewpoints around Annapurna IV, offering trekkers a unique way to experience the Himalayan landscape.
Beyond trekking, Manang has also gained attention for winter wildlife tourism. The region is considered one of the best places in Nepal to spot the elusive Snow Leopard, a rare Himalayan predator that roams the high-altitude deserts of the Annapurna region.
The possibility of observing snow leopards during the winter season has created an emerging niche in Himalayan wildlife tourism, attracting photographers, conservationists, and adventure travelers.
The inclusion of Manang Lodge in TIME’s global travel list highlights Nepal’s continued relevance in the international adventure travel market. The recognition is expected to strengthen Nepal’s reputation as a destination for luxury trekking, Himalayan tourism, eco-travel, and high-altitude cultural experiences.
Tourism experts say such global recognition can significantly boost visitor interest in Nepal, particularly in destinations along the Annapurna region that combine natural beauty, cultural heritage, and improved hospitality infrastructure.
For Nepal’s tourism industry—one of the country’s key economic pillars—the global spotlight from TIME’s “World’s Greatest Places” list provides a powerful platform to attract high-value international travelers seeking unique experiences in the Himalayas.
