KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has directed its diplomatic missions across the Middle East to arrange immediate relief and rescue support for Nepali nationals stranded in conflict-affected countries of the region.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday decided to mobilize Nepali embassies and consular offices to facilitate emergency assistance, evacuation coordination, and relief support for Nepali citizens currently stuck in West Asian countries due to escalating war-related disruptions.
According to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Nepali diplomatic missions in several key cities have been tasked with making the necessary arrangements for the rescue and support of affected citizens.
The embassies instructed to coordinate the rescue and relief operations include those located in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait City, Manama, Muscat, Islamabad, Cairo and Tel Aviv.
In addition, Nepal’s consular missions in Jeddah and Dubai have also been instructed to coordinate assistance efforts for Nepali nationals who may be stranded during transit or affected by flight disruptions.
To support the rescue and relief operations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal had requested emergency funding for the diplomatic missions operating in the affected countries.
The ministry sought Rs1 million for each of the 10 embassies and diplomatic missions to facilitate immediate rescue coordination, emergency shelter arrangements, documentation support, and logistical assistance for stranded Nepali citizens.
Government officials said the funds will enable embassies to quickly respond to urgent cases involving Nepali migrant workers, travelers, and transit passengers who may be unable to return home due to the ongoing conflict and disruptions in regional air travel.
The decision comes as geopolitical tensions and military conflict continue to escalate across parts of the Middle East, threatening air travel routes and safety conditions in several countries where hundreds of thousands of Nepali migrant workers are employed.
Countries such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman host large Nepali expatriate communities working in construction, hospitality, domestic service, and other sectors.
Officials say the government is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the region and coordinating with diplomatic missions to ensure the safety, relief support, and possible evacuation of Nepali nationals if the security situation deteriorates further.
