KATHMANDU: Prominent Nepali economist Keshab Acharya has passed away at the age of 72, family sources confirmed on Monday.
Acharya breathed his last at 9:55 AM while undergoing treatment at Annapurna Neuro Hospital, where he had been admitted following a brain stroke.
According to family members, his last rites will be performed on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, one son, and one daughter.
A Distinguished Career in Nepal’s Financial Sector
Acharya was widely respected in Nepal’s economic and policy circles. He previously served as an Executive Director at Nepal Rastra Bank, where he played a key role in shaping monetary and financial sector policies.
In recent years, he remained actively engaged in public discourse, advocating for stronger financial governance, economic reforms, and institutional accountability in Nepal. His analyses and policy interventions were frequently cited in debates surrounding fiscal discipline, banking sector stability, and overall economic governance.
Acharya’s passing is seen as a significant loss to Nepal’s intellectual and policy community. Colleagues and experts remember him as a principled economist who consistently pushed for transparency, reform, and evidence-based policymaking in the country’s financial system.
