KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has convened a central committee meeting at 4 PM today, followed by a crucial parliamentary party meeting expected to formally elect Balen Shah as its parliamentary leader.
According to party sources, the meeting will deliberate on key political agendas, with the primary focus on selecting the parliamentary party leader. The decision is expected to pave the way for the formation of a new government under constitutional provisions.
The development comes after newly elected Members of Parliament took their oath of office and secrecy at the Parliament Building in Singha Durbar earlier today. Following the oath-taking ceremony, RSP moved swiftly to hold both central committee and parliamentary party meetings to finalize leadership positions.
Party insiders indicate that Balen Shah is set to be unanimously elected as the parliamentary party leader. Once elected, the party plans to formally submit his name to the President’s Office in accordance with Article 71(1) of the Constitution for the appointment of the Prime Minister.
If the process proceeds as planned, Shah is expected to take the oath of office and secrecy as Prime Minister on Friday.
The fast-paced political developments signal a significant shift in Nepal’s leadership landscape, with RSP positioning itself at the center of government formation following the latest parliamentary developments.
