Newly elected lawmakers take oath in Parliament

KATHMANDU: Newly elected members of Nepal’s House of Representatives have taken the oath of office and secrecy amid a formal ceremony held at the Parliament’s temporary building in Singha Durbar.

The oath was administered by senior-most member of the House, Arjun Narasingha KC, in accordance with parliamentary procedures.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat Nepal, a total of 63 lawmakers chose to take their oath in languages other than Nepali, reflecting Nepal’s linguistic diversity and inclusive democratic framework.

Lawmakers arrived at the venue dressed in their traditional and cultural attire, adding symbolic significance to the ceremony that marks the formal commencement of their legislative responsibilities.

The oath-taking ceremony is a constitutional prerequisite for lawmakers before participating in parliamentary proceedings, including government formation, lawmaking, and policy deliberations.
