Foreign ministry training for ministers
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal has conducted a high-level orientation session for newly appointed ministers on diplomatic protocol, international engagement standards, and foreign policy conduct.
The training, held on Wednesday at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Kathmandu, focused on “Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Code of Conduct,” aiming to align the government’s leadership with global diplomatic norms and Nepal’s strategic interests.
According to Prime Minister Balen Shah’s press advisor Deepa Dahal, the session was led by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, who delivered a comprehensive presentation covering Nepal’s foreign policy framework and international positioning.
The briefing included key themes such as the evolving global geopolitical environment, Nepal’s bilateral and multilateral relations, and strategies for promoting national interests on the international stage. Ministers were also oriented on maintaining diplomatic decorum and adhering to established international practices while engaging with foreign governments and institutions.
Secretary Rai emphasized procedural discipline, boundaries of diplomatic engagement, and the importance of maintaining balance in Nepal’s foreign relations—particularly given its strategic position between major global and regional powers.
The training also highlighted technical aspects of diplomatic conduct, including communication protocols, negotiation practices, and policy coordination, reflecting the government’s effort to ensure consistency and professionalism in international dealings.
Officials say the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen Nepal’s diplomatic capacity, improve policy coherence, and enhance the effectiveness of government representatives in global forums and bilateral engagements.
