Sudesh Khaling Secures Second Term as CEO of Everest Bank, Following Outstanding First Tenure

KATHMANDU: Everest Bank has reappointed Sudesh Khaling as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for another four years, recognizing his exceptional performance during his first tenure. The bank’s Board of Directors decided on his reappointment during a meeting held on September 7 (Bhadra 22). His new term will officially begin on September 24 (Ashoj 8), the day after his initial four-year term ends.

Khaling, who holds more than 40 years of experience in Nepal’s banking sector, began his career in 1986 with Standard Chartered Bank. He went on to serve as CEO of Laxmi Sunrise Bank (formerly Laxmi Bank) before taking the helm of Everest Bank in 2021 (BS 2078), becoming its first Nepali CEO. Established in 1994 in partnership with Punjab National Bank of India, Everest Bank was led by foreign CEOs for nearly 27 years until Khaling’s historic appointment.

Under his leadership, Everest Bank’s performance indicators have reached record highs despite Nepal’s challenging economic environment. Among the 20 commercial banks in Nepal, Everest Bank currently holds the highest share value and the strongest dividend-paying capacity. The bank has successfully maintained its non-performing loans below 1%, while achieving robust business growth.

Key financial achievements under Khaling’s leadership include:

Deposits rose from NPR 160 billion in 2021 to NPR 298 billion in 2025.

Loans and advances increased from NPR 127 billion to NPR 213 billion.

Net profit surged from NPR 1.82 billion four years ago to NPR 5 billion in FY 2081/82 (2024/25).

Banking and financial analysts credit Khaling’s visionary leadership for steering Everest Bank towards becoming one of Nepal’s most resilient and growth-oriented financial institutions. His ability to maintain financial stability, ensure credit quality, and deliver strong returns during economic turbulence has set new benchmarks in Nepal’s commercial banking sector.

With his reappointment, Khaling is expected to continue strengthening Everest Bank’s role in driving Nepal’s financial inclusion, digital banking transformation, and sustainable economic growth.
