KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising on Tuesday directed the immediate closure of the Energy Minister’s chamber at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) headquarters in Ratnapark. He instructed that the space be returned to the Authority for institutional purposes rather than being used as a minister’s personal office.
The decision comes after criticism that former minister Dipak Khadka had misused the space for his own convenience, turning part of NEA’s office into a ministerial chamber. Employees and observers had raised concerns that such practices undermined institutional integrity and diverted office resources away from their intended functions.
Minister Ghising, known for his reformist image during his earlier tenure as NEA Managing Director, emphasized that public institutions must serve their organizational objectives rather than individual privileges. “Institutional property should never be used for personal comfort. It must always serve the institution’s interest,” he remarked while issuing the order.
Officials inside the Authority have welcomed the directive, viewing it as a positive step toward accountability and good governance. Preparations are now underway to repurpose the chamber for administrative and technical use within NEA.
