KATHMANDU: Google has announced that it will establish its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub in India, marking one of its largest technology investments outside the United States. The new AI Hub will be set up in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with an estimated investment of $15 billion over the next five years.
According to Google, the AI Hub will bring together the company’s full AI stack, including advanced computing infrastructure, data services, and cloud-based AI tools. The project aims to support India’s growing digital ecosystem and help businesses, startups, and developers build and scale AI-powered products.
The Visakhapatnam AI Hub will include a gigawatt-scale data center, powered by clean energy sources, and will be connected through an expanded fiber-optic network and a new subsea cable gateway to improve global data connectivity. Google will partner with AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel for infrastructure and network development.
The company said the investment will help strengthen India’s position as a global technology leader while creating new opportunities in AI research, software engineering, and data science. It is also expected to support thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the coming years.
“This AI Hub reflects our long-term commitment to India’s digital transformation,” Google said in a statement. “We are investing in infrastructure that will power innovation, boost local capacity, and help developers and businesses thrive in the AI era.”
The project aligns with India’s national goal of becoming a developed digital economy by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat vision. The hub will serve as a central base for AI research and innovation, benefiting sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and finance.
