KATHMANDU: The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has pledged €39,000 (approximately NPR 5.6 million) in emergency assistance to support communities affected by the devastating October 2025 floods in Ilam. The grant agreement was signed on behalf of Germany by Ambassador Udo Volz with Deutsche Welthungerhilfe for the implementation of an Emergency Relief Support Project in the district.
The agreement was co-signed by Shakeb Nabi, Country Director of Deutsche Welthungerhilfe, marking the start of a short-term response initiative aimed at delivering lifesaving aid and strengthening community resilience.
Assistance Focused on Vulnerable Groups
The project will target households in the worst-affected areas of Ilam, prioritizing marginalized communities, women, and children. Relief packages will include food supplies, mattresses, tarpaulins, warm clothing, dignity kits, and blankets to support immediate humanitarian needs as winter approaches.
Implementation will be carried out in coordination with Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) alongside local governments and community organizations. The program is scheduled for completion by December 2025.
Continued German Support in Disaster Situations
The German government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nepal during crises. During severe floods in September 2024, Germany had provided €100,000 for relief operations in Sarlahi and Rautahat, implemented by One Heart World Wide.
