KATHMANDU: The American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal) has officially joined the AmChams of Asia Pacific (AAP), becoming part of a powerful network of over 20 American Chambers across the region under the umbrella of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
This marks a historic milestone for Nepal’s private sector, as AmCham Nepal becomes the 130th chamber globally accredited by the U.S. Chamber and joins regional peers such as AmCham India, China, Australia, Japan, and Thailand.
At the AAP Board Meeting held on October 29, chaired by April Palmerlee, Chief Executive Officer of AmCham Australia, AmCham Nepal was formally welcomed as a new member. Amir Thapa, Executive Director of AmCham Nepal, expressed gratitude to the AAP leadership for this recognition and reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to promoting U.S. business engagement and advancing bilateral trade relations between Nepal and the United States. He also briefed the network on AmCham Nepal’s growth and achievements over the past three years, highlighting its expanding membership and advocacy initiatives.
Through the AAP network, AmCham Nepal members will now gain access to major regional business summits, policy dialogues, and advocacy platforms including the Annual AmChams of Asia Pacific Business Summit and Washington Doorknock Delegations in the United States. These avenues will help showcase Nepal’s business potential, attract foreign partnerships, and strengthen commercial diplomacy.
“Nepal stands at a strategic crossroads,” said Nirmal Kajee Shrestha, AmCham Chair. “This membership brings Nepal into the heart of Asia’s business conversations and reinforces our vision to present Nepal as a country of possibilities.”
Ajit Bikram Shah, Founding Chair, added, “It’s not just about recognition it’s about connection. Nepal’s entrepreneurs now have a seat at the regional table, shaping a more globally connected future.”
With over 61 world-class companies already operating in Nepal, AmCham Nepal’s new regional role promises to accelerate growth, investment, and opportunity for the nation’s private sector, strengthening Nepal’s presence within the broader Asia-Pacific business landscape.
