KATHMANDU: The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced that Permanent Account Number (PAN) certificates and related taxpayer services will now be provided through local levels following the closure of taxpayer service offices.
The decision comes after growing concerns from various stakeholders in districts regarding access to PAN-related services. On Thursday, the department confirmed that local governments will now facilitate the issuance of PAN certificates and other essential services previously handled directly by the taxpayer service offices.
The department noted that in cases where local-level processing may take longer, services will continue to be available through District Treasury and Accounts Offices to ensure timely delivery.
“The issuance of PAN certificates and other core taxpayer services previously provided by the Taxpayer Service Offices will now be managed by the respective local levels,” the IRD stated. “Where local-level services face delays, district-level Treasury and Accounts Offices will provide the same services to ensure taxpayers are not inconvenienced.”
The department also reminded taxpayers that several services, including tax payment, tax clearance certificates, and other related services, are available through the online system, allowing individuals and businesses to complete transactions without visiting offices in person.
This move is aimed at decentralizing taxpayer services, increasing accessibility, and maintaining continuity in service delivery across Nepal’s districts.
