KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in the United Kingdom has issued a public warning following a rise in fraud cases involving false promises of securing UK “work permits” for Nepali nationals.
In an official notice, the embassy stated that complaints have increased against individuals claiming they can arrange job sponsorships in the UK, luring Nepalis into fraudulent schemes. According to the embassy, the majority of victims are Nepalis residing in Nepal who are seeking to come to the UK for employment.
The embassy also noted a growing number of complaints from Nepalis already living in the UK who are actively looking for jobs and have fallen victim to similar scams. “It has been observed that in several cases, the perpetrators are individuals of Nepali origin. There are also reports of victims being introduced—often through acquaintances or trusted Nepali contacts—to third-country nationals, ultimately leading to financial fraud,” the statement said.
The embassy emphasized that such fraudulent activities are punishable offenses under the laws of both Nepal and the United Kingdom. Victims have been advised to file complaints with relevant investigative authorities in Nepal, as well as with local police in the UK and the National Anti-Fraud Network (Action Fraud).
Acting Nepali Ambassador to the UK Bipin Duwadi said the embassy is prepared to facilitate justice for victims who approach with credible evidence. The embassy has urged Nepalis facing such problems to contact it via official email or by phone at +44 7404 939274 for assistance.
The embassy has once again urged Nepali citizens to exercise caution, verify job offers and sponsorship claims thoroughly, and avoid making payments to unverified individuals or agents promising UK work permits.
