KATHMANDU: Global IME Bank recently reached a major milestone as its “Global Haat Bazaar” completed its 50th week of operation. This initiative, which began in November 2024, was created to give small-scale entrepreneurs and local farmers a dedicated space to sell their products directly to the public.
To mark this special anniversary, the bank organized a festive fair at its Kamaladi branch in Kathmandu this Friday. The market has become a regular fixture for the local community, held every Friday under the inspiring slogan: “Entrepreneur’s Product, Global IME’s Encouragement.”
The main goal of the Haat Bazaar is to bridge the gap between producers and consumers. By providing a physical space at one of their busiest branches, the bank helps micro and small business owners who often struggle to find a market for their goods. This includes everyone from organic farmers and handicraft makers to small-scale food producers.
During the ceremony, Surendra Raj Regmi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global IME Bank, shared his pride in the project’s success. He explained that many small businesses face a tough time getting their products in front of customers. By hosting this weekly market, the bank is helping these entrepreneurs earn a fair price while giving customers access to fresh, local, and organic items.
“This market is more than just a place to buy and sell,” CEO Regmi said. “It is helping us build a greener, more sustainable economy by encouraging local production. It builds a direct bond between the person who grows the food and the person who eats it.”
He added that while the bank started this as a symbolic campaign, the overwhelming support from both sellers and buyers has kept it going for 50 weeks. He expressed confidence that this initiative will continue to grow, potentially celebrating thousands of such market days in the future.
The bank views this initiative as part of its social responsibility. While providing loans is their core business, they believe in supporting the overall growth and professional skills of their clients. This approach has helped Global IME Bank earn several prestigious titles, including “Best Bank Nepal” for 2024 and 2025.
Global IME Bank is currently the first private commercial bank in Nepal to have a presence in all 77 districts. With over 1,000 service centers, including 352 branches and hundreds of ATMs, the bank serves millions of customers across the country.
Beyond local borders, the bank plays a massive role in Nepal’s economy through its remittance services. By connecting Nepalis living in countries like the USA, UK, Australia, and the Gulf with their families back home, the bank ensures that the hard-earned money of migrant workers contributes directly to the nation’s prosperity.
