Golyan Group scholarship recipients take first step in education

KATHMANDU: Three children receiving scholarships under the Golyan Group’s education support program for the children of martyrs from the Gen Z movement formally began their educational journey on Friday with Akshararambha ceremonies held on the occasion of Saraswati Puja.

The ceremonies were organized simultaneously in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Siraha (Lahan). The children commenced their early education at Kathmandu Euro School in Baniyatar, Early Childhood Academy in Ranipauwa, Pokhara, and School of Scholar in Lahan, Siraha. All three children are two years old.

Golyan Group had announced the scholarship scheme on Asoj 24, committing to provide education support up to Grade 12 for the children of martyrs. A total of 34 children have been enrolled under the program, of whom three have now reached school-going age and formally begun their studies.

Addressing the Akshararambha ceremony at Kathmandu Euro School, Golyan Group Chairman and Managing Director Akshya Golyan said the initiative was a responsibility undertaken to honor the sacrifices made by the martyrs’ families for the nation. He stated that the group’s support should not be seen as charity, but as a long-term social responsibility aimed at ensuring sustainable access to quality education.

Golyan emphasized that education empowers children with confidence, opportunity, and direction, noting that children who are learning to recognize letters today can grow into professionals and responsible citizens who contribute to strengthening the country in the future.

During the event, Golyan handed over a cheque of Rs 376,000 to Kathmandu Euro School, covering one year of scholarship support for student Nelson Parajuli.

According to Golyan Group’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Communications, and Public Relations, Jyoti Gaire, the scholarship program is being implemented through a tripartite agreement among the martyrs’ families, the respective schools, and Golyan Group. Under the agreement, the group has committed to cover education expenses of up to Rs 40,000 per month per child, amounting to a maximum of Rs 480,000 annually. She confirmed that payments have already been made to schools that submitted bills as per the agreement, in line with the group’s commitment.

Kathmandu Euro School Chairman Pramod Pandey said Golyan Group’s decision to take responsibility for the education of martyrs’ children reflects a broader commitment to social responsibility. He noted that the initiative aligns with the belief that education is the most valuable form of wealth and pledged the school’s dedication to fulfilling its role responsibly.

In Pokhara, Early Childhood Academy Principal Salvi Bastola Masani said the collaboration had increased the sense of responsibility within the school community. She said the institution was honored to partner with Golyan Group in educating the children of martyrs and emphasized the shared duty to work collectively for the children’s future.

Following the enrollment of Vivanshi Chaudhary at School of Scholar in Lahan, her uncle Ajay Chaudhary expressed confidence that the dreams left behind by martyr Vijay Chaudhary would be realized. He expressed gratitude to Golyan Group, stating that the group had extended support with an open heart and demonstrated meaningful cooperation for the families of martyrs.
