Global IME Bank launches Kiosk-based account opening service

KATHMANDU – Global IME Bank Limited has introduced a self-service facility that allows customers to open bank accounts directly through a kiosk machine installed at its branch office, as part of its drive to deliver simplified, accessible, and technology-driven banking services.

The bank rolled out the kiosk-based account opening system on the occasion of its 19th anniversary. For the first time in Nepal, under this service, customers can independently open a bank account using the kiosk machine located at the bank’s Kamaladi branch in Kathmandu.

During the account opening process, customers are required to input all necessary personal and banking details through the kiosk interface. After entering the required information and submitting relevant documents digitally, the system generates and provides an account number. At present, the service is available exclusively through the Digital Universe facility at the Kamaladi branch.

Previously, the bank had already been offering machine-based services such as cash deposit and cheque deposit through the Digital Universe at the same branch. The new kiosk account-opening feature marks an expansion of its self-service digital banking ecosystem.

The bank has stated that it plans to gradually expand such technology-enabled services to additional locations in the future.

Global IME Bank has received recognition from various national and international institutions across different categories. Its accolades include Bank of the Year 2014, Best Internet Bank 2016, Best Bank Nepal 2024 and 2025, Euromoney Award for Excellence 2022, 2024, and 2025, Best Bank ESG Nepal 2024, and Best Employer, among other prestigious honors.

Global IME Bank is the first private-sector commercial bank in Nepal to establish a branch network across all 77 districts of the country. The bank currently operates through 352 branch offices, 384 ATMs, 150 branchless banking service points, 68 extension and revenue collection counters, and 3 overseas representative offices, providing services via more than 1,000 service centers.

Through its remittance services, the bank facilitates financial inflows for Nepali citizens from around the world. It operates remittance channels from countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, India, and Jordan, contributing to Nepal’s broader economic activity and financial inclusion.

What is KIOSK

A kiosk bank account machine is a self-service terminal or mini-booth, often located in local shops or bank branches, that allows users to perform banking transactions without a teller. These machines, which may use biometric authentication, enable users to open accounts, deposit/withdraw cash, transfer funds, check balances, and print statements.

Key Features and Functions:

Self-Service Banking: Unlike traditional ATMs, these, often called Personal Teller Machines (PTMs), integrate directly with the bank’s core system, allowing for more complex transactions.
Account Access: Users can perform instant KYC (Know Your Customer) for account opening, print account statements, and request checkbooks.
Cash and Cheque Transactions: They facilitate secure cash deposits, withdrawals, and cheque deposits.
Accessibility: They act as “mini-branches” in remote areas or high-traffic commercial spaces to improve financial inclusion.
