India hands over third tranche of election assistance to Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Government of India handed over the third tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal on Wednesday, as part of preparations for the country’s upcoming elections.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal H.E. Naveen Srivastava formally transferred the assistance to Nepal’s Minister for Home Affairs, Om Prakash Aryal, during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Kathmandu.

According to officials, the third tranche includes more than 270 vehicles and additional logistical supplies requested by the Government of Nepal. Among the vehicles are 50 trucks designated for the Nepali Army. The trucks were received separately by Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel from Ambassador Srivastava.

Speaking at the event, Home Minister Aryal expressed appreciation for what he described as timely and significant support from India. He also acknowledged the broader cooperation between the two countries, highlighting long-standing ties based on mutual trust, friendship, and shared democratic principles.

The latest consignment follows the first and second tranches of election assistance, which together comprised over 310 vehicles and other materials, handed over on January 20 and January 29, 2026, respectively. Officials said additional deliveries are expected in phases in the coming days.

The assistance forms part of ongoing India–Nepal cooperation across multiple sectors, with election support being one component of the broader bilateral development partnership.
