FCAN sets dates for 26th general assembly, Leadership election scheduled for April

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN), the umbrella body representing construction entrepreneurs across the country, has announced the dates for its long-awaited general assembly and leadership election.

According to the federation, the 26th General Assembly and Election (13th Convention) will be held from March 30 to April 1, 2026 (Chaitra 17–19, 2082 BS) in Kathmandu. The event will take place at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, a major venue frequently used for national conventions and policy gatherings.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the federation’s executive committee held on Sunday. The gathering finalized the new schedule after the earlier plan to organize the convention in mid-January was postponed due to the enforcement of election codes of conduct during the national polls.

Initially, the federation had scheduled the convention for January 28–30, 2026 (Magh 15–17, 2082 BS). However, the program was deferred because the election code of conduct imposed around the parliamentary elections restricted large organizational events and political gatherings.

Following the completion of the House of Representatives election on March 4, 2026 (Falgun 21, 2082 BS), the federation stated that it became easier to fix new dates for the convention and electoral process.

The upcoming general assembly will be a key event for Nepal’s construction sector, which plays a crucial role in infrastructure development, public procurement, hydropower projects, roads, bridges, and urban development initiatives.

Contractors from across the country are expected to participate in the convention, where policy discussions, organizational reforms, and leadership selection will be conducted.

FCAN said that representatives already selected earlier will remain valid, in accordance with Clause 9, Sub-clause (16) of the federation’s statute. This provision ensures that previously accredited delegates can participate in the convention and vote in the leadership election without undergoing a new selection process.

The general assembly will ultimately elect a new leadership team to steer the federation for the upcoming term. The leadership change comes at a time when Nepal’s construction industry is facing several challenges, including delayed government payments, contract disputes, inflation in construction materials, and the need for policy reforms in public procurement and infrastructure financing.

Industry stakeholders believe the upcoming convention could shape the federation’s agenda on issues such as infrastructure investment, contractor regulation, project execution efficiency, and coordination with the government on large-scale national development projects.

The election is expected to draw strong interest from leading construction entrepreneurs and regional representatives who will compete for key positions within the federation’s executive committee.
