Foreign investment commitment exceeds Rs 40.66 billion in eight months

KATHMANDU: In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, Nepal has secured foreign investment commitments totaling Rs40.66 billion across 555 projects, according to the Department of Industry.

Of these, 537 are small projects, 8 medium, and 8 large. In Falgun (February–March) alone, 30 new projects were added, bringing Rs388.6 million in commitments and expected to generate employment for 259 people.

By sector, the IT sector led with 307 projects, attracting Rs1.3 billion in foreign investment commitments. Other sectors include:

  • Tourism: 155 projects – Rs11 billion
  • Service: 39 projects – Rs3.62 billion
  • Manufacturing: 37 projects – Rs2.52 billion
  • Agriculture: 14 projects – Rs2.09 billion
  • Mining: 2 projects – Rs11 million
  • Energy: 1 project – Rs184.2 million

The department highlighted that the growing foreign investment reflects increasing investor confidence in Nepal’s diverse economic sectors.
