KATHMANDU: The central committee of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has unanimously approved a proposal to appoint senior leader Balen Shah as the party’s parliamentary leader, paving the way for his appointment as Nepal’s next Prime Minister.

The proposal, tabled by party president Rabi Lamichhane, was endorsed without opposition during an ongoing central committee meeting. Party spokesperson and member of parliament Manish Jha confirmed that the party meeting formally passed the decision to elevate Shah to the leader of the parliamentary party.

With RSP emerging as the largest force in Parliament and commanding close to a two-thirds majority, Shah is now set to lead the government formation process. Following his formal selection as parliamentary party leader, preparations are underway to recommend his name for Prime Minister.

According to party leaders, Ram Chandra Paudel is expected to administer the oath of office and secrecy to Shah as Prime Minister on Friday.

The decision marks a major political shift in Nepal, with a new generation of leadership taking control amid changing electoral dynamics and rising public demand for governance reform.
