Private sector welcomes govt’s 100-point governance reform agenda, FNCCI sees boost to investor confidence

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s private sector has expressed strong optimism following the government’s announcement of a 100-point governance reform agenda, viewing it as a significant step toward improving the business climate and restoring investor confidence.

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry said the reform package has positively impacted the morale of the private sector, which has long been seeking structural policy support and a stable investment environment.

FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal welcomed the initiative, stating that the inclusion and approval of a Private Sector Protection and Promotion Strategy reflects a long-standing demand of the business community.

“We express our sincere gratitude for endorsing the private sector protection and promotion strategy that the FNCCI has been advocating for years. This is a highly significant achievement for the private sector,” Dhakal said.

Confidence Boost for Businesses and Investors

According to Dhakal, the strategy is expected to:

  • Strengthen the security of private enterprises
  • Improve business confidence
  • Create a more conducive environment for operations and investment

He emphasized that effective implementation will be critical in addressing existing structural challenges faced by businesses in Nepal.

Driving Investment, Jobs, and Economic Growth

The private sector believes that if executed properly, the reform agenda could play a transformative role in Nepal’s economic trajectory by:

  • Encouraging domestic and foreign investment
  • Promoting entrepreneurship
  • Generating employment opportunities
  • Supporting overall economic growth

Dhakal added that the reforms could help foster a more positive outlook toward business activities, which has been dampened in recent years due to policy uncertainty and operational bottlenecks.

Implementation Key to Success

While the response from the private sector has been largely positive, stakeholders stress that the real impact will depend on timely and effective execution of the announced measures.

The government’s reform agenda includes a wide range of initiatives aimed at improving governance, enhancing transparency, and streamlining regulatory processes—factors that are seen as crucial for building a resilient and competitive economy.
