KATHMANDU: The U.S. Department of State has lowered its travel advisory for Nepal to Level 2 (Exercise Increased Caution), citing improved security conditions following the end of nationwide demonstrations that began in September 2025.
While the advisory notes that the overall situation in Nepal has stabilized, it warns that sporadic protests and local unrest may still occur, particularly in major cities, and could turn violent without warning. Travelers are advised to avoid large crowds and follow instructions from local authorities.
The advisory also highlights limited medical capabilities, stating that hospitals in Kathmandu are relatively better but often crowded, with possible shortages of medicines and upfront payment requirements.
It further warns of natural disaster risks, including earthquakes and monsoon-related floods and landslides, which can disrupt travel and emergency services.
US authorities recommend travelers stay updated, secure comprehensive travel insurance, and take necessary precautions while visiting Nepal.
