KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a courtesy meeting with visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Afsal Kapur on Tuesday, reinforcing ongoing diplomatic engagement between Nepal and the United States.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting took place in Kathmandu and focused on strengthening bilateral relations, with both sides expressing commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
Discussions primarily centered on enhancing economic engagement, with particular emphasis on expanding trade and investment opportunities. Both officials underscored the importance of fostering a more robust economic partnership, reflecting growing interest in private sector collaboration and development-oriented initiatives.
The meeting also touched on broader diplomatic ties, with both sides acknowledging the longstanding relationship between Nepal and the United States and the need to further institutionalize cooperation in line with evolving regional and global dynamics.
Kapur’s visit comes at a time when Nepal is seeking to position itself as an attractive destination for foreign investment while balancing strategic partnerships with major global powers.
