KATHMANDU: The government has decided to relieve 15 honorary consuls and honorary consul generals stationed in different countries from their positions.

A Cabinet meeting held on Friday morning took the decision following a proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to government sources.

The meeting approved the removal of 15 honorary consular officials serving as Honorary Consuls General and Honorary Consuls in various foreign destinations. However, the government has not yet publicly disclosed the names of the officials or the countries where they were assigned.

The decision comes amid ongoing reviews of Nepal’s diplomatic and honorary representation abroad, as the government seeks to streamline foreign missions and strengthen diplomatic accountability.

In another major decision, the Cabinet approved the proposal to present two international labor-related instruments to the Federal Parliament for ratification.

The government decided to seek parliamentary approval for the 2014 Protocol No. 29 related to the International Labour Organization’s Forced Labour Convention, 1930, as well as Convention No. 81 of 1947.

The move is expected to strengthen Nepal’s commitment to international labor standards, workers’ rights, and global compliance frameworks related to forced labor monitoring and labor inspections.

Similarly, the Cabinet also decided to request the President to address the upcoming meeting of the Federal Parliament scheduled for 4:00 pm on the 28th.

The presidential address is expected to outline the government’s policy priorities ahead of the upcoming parliamentary session and budget discussions.
