KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom has reported a 9.85 percent increase in net profit during the third quarter of the current fiscal year 2082/83, supported by higher operating revenue and lower depreciation expenses despite a decline in interest income.

The profit increased by NPR 562.4 million year-on-year.

Operating Income Up 2.42 Percent

The telecom operator recorded a total operating income of NPR 25.92 billion during the review period, up from NPR 25.31 billion in the corresponding period of fiscal year 2081/82. This marks an increase of NPR 612 million, or 2.42 percent.

Similarly, the company’s total income reached NPR 28.85 billion, compared to NPR 28.43 billion in the same period last fiscal year, reflecting an increase of NPR 423.3 million, or 1.49 percent.

EBITDA Improves to NPR 14.38 Billion

Nepal Telecom reported Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) of NPR 14.38 billion in the third quarter of FY 2082/83, compared to NPR 14.19 billion in the same period last year.

GSM Revenue Growth and Lower Depreciation Boost Performance

Nepal Telecom attributed changes in revenue and profitability to multiple operational and financial factors.

According to the company, interest income declined by NPR 576.6 million, or 20.57 percent, compared to the third quarter of the previous fiscal year, mainly due to continuously falling interest rates.

However, the decline in financial income was offset by growth in telecom services revenue. GSM segment revenue increased by NPR 577.4 million, representing a 2.76 percent rise compared to the same period last year.

The company also reported a reduction in depreciation expenses, which declined by NPR 386.9 million, or 8.46 percent, helping improve overall profitability.

Nepal Telecom’s improved financial performance comes amid increasing competition in Nepal’s telecom sector and growing demand for mobile data and digital communication services.
