KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has launched a fully online system for driving licence-related services from Monday, allowing applicants to complete almost the entire process digitally.
Under the new system, services including new licence applications, renewals and revenue payments can now be completed online, eliminating the need for applicants to visit transport offices for most procedures.
According to the department, applicants will only be required to appear in person for the mandatory medical examination during the initial phase of implementation.
To facilitate the rollout, the DoTM has launched separate web portals for all seven provinces. Service seekers can now access licence-related services through the dedicated website of their respective province.
The department expects the digital system to make licence services faster, more transparent and more convenient while reducing administrative hassles and long queues at transport offices and banks.
DoTM Director Keshav Khatiwada said applicants can automatically populate their personal information in the online application form by scanning the QR code on their National Identity Card or the Nagarik App.
Applicants who are not enrolled in the Nagarik App will continue to follow the existing process by manually entering their personal details while submitting the online application, he added.
The department said the move to a fully digital platform will also free service seekers from having to stand in queues at banks to pay government fees or visit transport offices merely to submit application forms.
