Himalaya Airlines to launch Kathmandu-Bangkok flights

Himalaya Airlines to Launch Kathmandu Bangkok Flights Within a Month Expanding International Network

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s private international carrier Himalaya Airlines is preparing to expand its flight network to Bangkok, with the airline initiating the regulatory process to begin regular flights between Kathmandu and the Thai capital within the next month.

An airline employee said the proposed Bangkok service is part of Himalaya Airlines’ broader commercial expansion strategy. The airline has already started the necessary process with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to launch the new route.

“Flights to Bangkok are part of our commercial flight plan. However, as flights to the Middle East region have been affected, we have also accelerated our plans for Bangkok,” the employee said.

The airline expects the proposed service to benefit passengers while also supporting two-way tourism promotion between Nepal and Thailand.

According to the airline, its representatives have already reached Bangkok to prepare for the launch of regular flights on the new route.

The airline’s planned expansion comes as its operations on some Middle Eastern routes have been affected. The carrier is currently facing reduced passenger demand on its regular flights to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, according to the airline source.

The source said passenger traffic on flights to and from these destinations has declined, affecting the airline’s operations.

Himalaya Airlines currently operates regular international services using a fleet of four Airbus narrow-body aircraft. The airline connects Nepal with destinations including China, Bangladesh, Dubai, Malaysia and Qatar, among others.

The planned Kathmandu-Bangkok service is expected to further diversify the airline’s international network and provide travellers with an additional direct air connectivity option between Nepal and Thailand.

The new route could also support tourism flows between the two countries by making travel more convenient for both Nepali and international visitors. The airline expects the Bangkok service to strengthen its network in Southeast Asia while helping offset the impact of weaker demand on some Middle Eastern routes.

Himalaya Airlines is now working with the aviation authorities to complete the required regulatory procedures before launching the new service, with the airline targeting operations within the next month.
