KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), which is the country’s aviation regulatory body, has allocated a budget worth Rs 19.60 billion for the national pride projects that fall under its jurisdiction. The projects for which budget has been separated are the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA), Pokhara International Airport (PIA) and Nijgadh International Airport (NIA). According to CAAN, budget worth Rs 1.91 billion has been allotted for the construction of a new apron and parallel taxiway towards the north of the runway at TIA. Similarly, Rs 1.46 billion has been separated for construction of a parallel taxiway to the south of the runway at TIA. Meanwhile, Rs 400 million has been allocated to expand and renovate the international terminal building at TIA. A further Rs 280 million has been allotted for the current fiscal year for the remaining works related to upgrading TIA as a boutique airport. CAAN has also allocated Rs 800 million to compensate land owners from whom CAAN acquired land to expand TIA. Similarly, a total of Rs 3.28 billion has been allocated to complete the construction of runway and terminal building of GBIA. GBIA has achieved 91 per cent work progress so far. The regulator has also allotted Rs 2.16 billion to distribute compensation for the land acquired for GBIA. Likewise, Rs 10.25 billion has been allocated this fiscal for the construction of Pokhara International Airport. Till date, the PIA project has achieved 61 per cent work progress. A total of Rs 780 million has been allocated to distribute compensation to the land owners from whom CAAN acquired land to construct the PIA. Meanwhile, CAAN has allocated Rs 30 million for the site clearance of NIA and Rs 50 million for the construction of periphery roads of the airport. Besides, Rs 200 million has also been separated to distribute compensation for the land acquired to construct the NIA. CAAN has allocated a budget of Rs 41.11billion for the current fiscal year.
