Govt to extend deadline of ongoing hydro projects by one year

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) is preparing to extend the construction deadline of all ongoing hydropower projects by one year.

Based on recommendation of a study committee formed to review impact of COVID-19 in the hydropower sector, the Ministry is expected to extend project deadline of all hydropower soon.

Earlier, Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) had formally requested Energy Minister Barsaman Pun to extend the project deadline of hydel projects citing that the construction of majority of such projects had been affected due to the spread of COVID-19 and lockdown imposed by the government.

Similarly, MoEWRI is also preparing to give up to 75 percent discount on license renewal fee to power producers.
