Nepal’s aviation sector bears over Rs 17 billion loss due to COVID-19

KATHMANDU:  Nepal’s aviation industry lost over Rs 17 billion due to the COVID-19 pandemic in between March and November 2020, as per a report released by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

As per the report, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) incurred loss amounting to Rs 5 billion during the period while Himalaya Airlines recorded Rs 2 billion loss.

Similarly, other private airline firms conducting domestic flights incurred over Rs 10.62 billion loss during the period due to the pandemic, states the report.

All domestic and international flights remained halted completely for several months after the COVID-19 spread in Nepal since March. Though domestic and international flights have resumed recently, airline companies are operating flights below capacity affecting their revenue.
