SC issues interim order asking govt to halt tax collection from Ncell

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order asking the government not to collect assessed income tax from the telecom company Ncell.

The single-bench of justice Prakash Kumar Dhungana today issued the interim order following a hearing on Ncell’s writ petition against the recent tax assessment  done by the Large Taxpayers’ Office (LTO).

Earlier, LTO had asked Ncell to pay almost Rs 60 billion as income tax out of the the company’s buyout deal in 2016.

Following LTO’s notification, Ramesh Ghimire, on behalf of Ncell, had filed the writ petition against the Ministry of Finance, Inland Revenue Department and the Large Taxpayer’s Office.
