Budget for FY 2021-22 to focus economic revival, discourage new programmes

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has sought proposals for budget and programmes for the next fiscal year. As MoF has already started preparation for the the upcoming budget for 2021-22, different Ministries have been asked to present their proposal for the budget.

At a meeting held today with secretaries of different Ministries at MoF, Dhaniram Sharma, chief, Budget and Programme Division, said that the government is under pressure to manage resources and asked Ministries to present budget proposal not exceeding the ceiling given to them.

Sharma also urged secretaries not to propose new programmes and projects for next fiscal year in the budget and prioritize ongoing projects and programmes.

Similarly, Sharma also requested Ministries to adopt austerity measures and control unnecessary expenditure. “As the economy has been hit hard by the COVID-19, our programmes in the next budget should primarily focus on reviving the economy,” he said.
