No call for workers from Malaysia, Kuwait

KATHMANDU: Though Malaysia and Kuwait are one among preferred labour destinations of Nepali migrant workers, these countries have not welcomed any Nepali workers in  the recent months.

As per the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), it has not issued any work permit (new) to Malaysia and Kuwait in the last eight months of 2020-21.

“There has not been any queries for labour in these countries in recent months. As the result, we have not issued any new work permit to these destinations for last eight months,” informed Chhatra Shah, Spokesperson at the Foreign Employment Office, Tahachal under the DoFE.

Owing to spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, countries like Malaysia, Kuwait and other Gulf nations have not welcomed new workers. However, Malaysia is allowing re-entry of migrant of workers in handful of sectors less affected by the pandemic.
