Oppositions file writ petition in apex court against House dissolution

KATHMANDU: The opposition parties have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking restoration of the House of Representatives (HoR) and appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

Altogether 146 ex-lawmakers filed the writ petition this afternoon. Of the petitioners, 61 lawmakers are from Nepali Congress, 48 from CPN (Maoist Center), 23 from CPN-UML, 12 from Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and one to the Rastriya Janamorcha Party.

On Friday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari, on recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, dissolved the parliament and announced a midterm election for November 12 and November.

She had rejected both Oli and the opposition alliance’s leader Sher Bahadur Deuba claims to form a government. Meanwhile, the authorities in Nepal on Sunday tightened security around the Supreme Court building and government offices in view of the opposition’s decision to move the apex court on dissolution of the House
