SC hearing on dissolution of house of representative resumes

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) today.

The SC hearing scheduled for Monday (June 7) on HoR dissolution had been postponed for Wednesday citing poor health condition of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, informed Supreme Court.

Though the discussions began on Sunday in the constitutional bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana, Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Meera Khadka, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, and Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, the hearing could not take place due to the disputes that cropped up over the issue of formation of the bench.

Objecting to the formation of the bench, Attorney General Ramesh Badal, former Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel, and senior advocate Sushil Panta took exception to the formation of the bench stating that the justices who did not wish to remain on the bench were kept. .

Advocates Rajaram Ghimire, Yagya Mani Neupane, Deepak Mishra, and Krishna Prasad Bhandari had submitted a writ petition along with a claim that 11 justices should not hear the case relating to HoR dissolution.

A total of 30 writ petitions have been filed over the dispute. Twenty-six writ petitions of 146 members of dissolved HoR are in favor of reinstatement of HoR.
