Govt files petition at Supreme Court to vacate stay order on tax collection during prohibitory order

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has registered a petition at the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to vacate the apex court’s recent order directing the government not to collect the tax and impose fines during the prohibitory order.

The Supreme Court had issued an interim order in the name of the government not to impose fine on delayed payment of tax throughout the prohibitory order. The government has filed a petition seeking revocation of the interim order.

Hearing on the writ petition filed by advocate Srijana Adhikari on May 19, a single bench of Justice Mira Khadka, asked the government to give 30 days time even after the lockdown is lifted for taxpayers to file the tax and do not levy any fines and penalties throughout the period.
