Plans afoot to issue work permit to migrant workers from local level offices

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security is preparing to start providing labor permit to aspirant migrant workers from the local level itself.

If this plan is implemented, it will ease migrant workers as they are currently compelled to come to Kathmandu from across the country for work permit.

Surya Prasad Gautam, secretary at the Ministry, informed that necessary groundwork is being done to issue labor/work permit to migrant workers from the local level itself. “At present, work permit is issued only from Kathmandu and workers are obliged to travel long and face difficulty to obtain the permit. Issuing work permit from the local level will ease migrant workers,” said Gautam.

Gautam also said that plan to issue labor permit from the local level is a part of government’s effort to make foreign employment easy and systematic. Issuance of labor permit from the local level will also reduce time and financial burden on workers.
