Nepal Telecom gears up to carry trial of 5G internet service in Nepal

KATHMANDU: The state-owned Nepal Telecom (NT) is set to carryout trial of 5G internet service within next four years.

The board meeting of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), held last week, approved the working procedure on 5G and paved way for NT to carryout test transmission of 5G internet service in Nepal.

Chair of the country’s telecommunications regulatory body, Purushottam Khanal confirmed that the working procedure for 5G trial had been readied. Now, service providers can apply for a trial.

As per NTA, it will provide free frequency for a maximum of one year for the trial use. The NTA has permitted NT to operate 5G in 2600 Mhz within 60 Mhz bandwidth.
