Nepal-India Energy Secretary Level meeting scheduled for Wednesday

KATHMANDU: Nepal-India Energy Secretary-Level Joint Steering Committee (JSC) meeting postponed since last two years will now be held on February 23 and 24 (Wednesday and Thursday) later this week. The delegation from Nepal and India will meet in Kathmandu as per the request of India.

The representatives of the two nations had previously held a meeting in Bangalore, India, two years ago. The two countries had agreed to hold the meeting every six months. However, the meeting had been postponed after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Despite the pandemic, Nepal had repeatedly urged India to convene the meeting. However, India had been reluctant to hold the meeting, citing the reason of Covid-19. India proposed resuming the meeting amid declining risk of Covid-19.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Madhu Prasad Bhetuwal confirmed that the Energy Secretary-level meeting will take place on February 23 and 24.
