Airlines operating int’l flights at Gautam Buddha Int’l airport to get 100pc waiver on fees

KATHMANDU: The government has announced a 100 percent waiver on different fares for one year to all airline companies operating international flights  from the Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA).

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the regulating agency of Nepal’s aviation industry, informed that airline companies operating international flights from GBIA will be provided full discount on landing fee, rest fee, security check, communication and aviation fee effective from May 28.

CAAN officials informed that the waiver aims at encouraging foreign airlines at GBIA, the second international airport of the country.

Nepal on May 16 officially inaugurated the country’s second international airport in Bhairahawa. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, the airport project is backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Located 19km from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lumbini, which is the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the new airport has a 15,169m² terminal building and new runway of 3,000m.
