Nepal is witnessing incredible growth in digital payment ecosystem: Governor Adhikari

KATHMANDU: Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari said that the development of digitization in the payment system is encouraging in Nepal.

Addressing the Fonepay Digital Economy Conclave 2022 organized in Kathmandu today, Adhikari said that digital payment ecosystem in Nepal has witnessed huge growth after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I did not expect the development of digital payments to go this fast and effective. The growth of digitalisation, especially in payment systems, is encouraging,” said Adhikari.

However, Adhikari opined that there is still a long way to go to make Nepal fully digital and paperless.

“Digital payments have yet to further digitize the economy as a whole. We have to think about how to expand digital payments in places where there is no mobile and no internet, ” added Adhikari.
