Bank deposits decreased by 8 billion in the last one week

Credit crunch looms as commercial banks grapple with liquidity mismatch

KATHMANDU: In the last one week, the deposits of commercial banks have decreased by 8 billion. According to the Nepal Bankers Association, before Dashain, till September 30, deposits of Rs 4,519 billion has collected by commercial banks and after the Dashain vacation, on October 7, the deposit has shrink to Rs 4,511 billion.

According to the association, the loan disbursement also decreased by 4 billion during that period. As of the 14th, a total of Rs 4,197 billion rupees has been disbursed, which has decreased to Rs 4,193 billion rupees. Overall, deposits increased by 25 billion in 21 days in September, while lending increased by only 3 billion.
